I'd like to give a big welcome to the readers of the new Pintley blog. The Pintley community is all about drinking better beer, so I hope that those of us writing for the blog can help others pursue that goal. My particular contribution will be in the form of a monthly style study of sorts.  The main component of this will be a survey of commercial examples of the style, but I may throw in some other elements as I think of them (or someone suggests them).  I have been considering doing something like this for a while as a way of expanding both my palate and my knowledge of the various styles, and I'm looking forward to sharing the experience with you all.

The first style I'll be looking at, American Pale Ale (APA), was an easy choice.  APA is one of the quintessential American styles, and it has long been one of my go-to types of beer.  After I caught the craft beer bug—but before I diversified—I would often have a case of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale waiting for me when I got home from work.  Nowadays I am much more likely to have a mix of styles and brands on hand, but I often come back to that old love that is APA.  Its great combination of moderate-to-high American hop flavor and bitterness with well-balanced, clean malt support and a smooth, dry finish makes for a very drinkable beer when done well. For many, myself included, APA serves as an excellent, refreshing, and flavorful session beer.

So without further ado, here is the stash I will be tasting and reviewing throughout February and March:
