Pour is nice bubbly hazy gold hue. The nose it's funky sour, but the flavor doesn't match the nose, good body , dry, refreshing, just a bit little boozy good beer
Poured into one of those skinny Ommegang chalices. A: Pours a slightly hazed straw color with a short head that dissipates quickly. Moderate carbonation. N: White grape skins, lemon, pear, champagne, bread and a light Bretty funk. T: Slightly tart upfront with pear, white grapes, lemon and bread dough. Mid-palate brings in cereal grains, lemongrass, white wine, hints of wheat and some subtle white pepper and coriander. Finishes with lemon juice, bread dough, hay and a very subtle funk. M: Light-medium bodied, crisp, clean, dry and refreshing. O: Very complex which I contribute to 20% being aging in wine barrels. Excellent white grape qualities all around with lemon, bread dough and light spices. The wild yeast notes add just enough and keep it very refreshing. An excellent Saison.
Makes me want new years good flavor dry reminds me of a brut not too bad
Served on tap into tulip glass. Hazy gold, fluffy white head with decent retention. Taste and aroma- good dose of Belgian phenols and esters, and a good dose of Brettanomyces character. There's a tartness, but it's not overbearing. Light bodied, well carbonated, refreshing. Finish was a lot sweeter than I'd expected. Too sweet for a saison, my only complaint with the beer. Still a good Belgian farmhouse beer.
I expected more from this beer - I found it to be weak on flavor, but refreshing. it was very dry and reminded me more of Champagne than other Saissons I've tried.
Sour Belgian. Okay
Tried the 2011 over New Year's, and I must say out of the three I tried(also had Matilda and Pere Jaques) the Sofie is the one that would have me coming back for more and more. Bright, peppery nose with that slightly funky saison character that I love. This beer was lively and is up there with some of my favorite saisons produced. Gorgeous hop character. Highly recommended!!!
Reminds me of an Orval, though less round in both flavor and texture. Still, a really good beer.
A great textured beer with a smooth vanilla taste with strong hints of orange. Delicious.
brilliant clear gold with white lacey head. moderate spicy hop aroma with herbal notes. slight medicine note as well. sweet malt taste backed by spicy hop, slight diacetyl.
I don't think I agree with the Saison style that this beer supposedly is. To me, it is much more like a tripel in that I don't get the typical hop notes that you expect from a Saison or a farmhouse. The head disappears too quickly as well and there needs to be more carbonation to really help bring out the Seattle funky flavors of a Saison. Still, a good spice note and easy drinking.
Nothing special
Very sweet at first taste but a very nice saison got a four pack over a year old really nice flavor
Another strong belgian from GI
Goose Island knows Belgian beer.
Excellent
a tart and sour saison, but a great Belgian style.
Quality Beer Downtown Champaign. Sweet but smooth.
Lost a lot of respect for GI when they sold out for such a small amount, but their craft beers are still stunning
Pretty decent, but still no Hennepin. 3.5 rating
