Poured into a snifter. 4.0 A: Lightly hazed yellow orange color. Two and a half fingers of off-white creamy/frothy head. The retention is initially average, but the last finger is quite stubborn. Some irregular lacing. Small particulates floating uniformly throughout. 4.5 S: Tons of pineapple in this. Just tons. Peach, orange, and tangerine follow. Herbal hops. Good amount of phenolic clove and to a lesser extent pepper. There's also a sweet, candy like aroma in here not too much unlike peach rings. Very nice! 5.0 T: Good god is this tasty! The pineapple is a big player again, along with peaches in heavy syrup, Sunny D, and a thick citric fruit smoothie. Less clove than in the nose, but perhaps a bit more pepper. The Belgian yeast funkiness comes through well in the taste and works extremely well with the hop flavors. It's both earthy and exceptionally fruity and it works surprisingly well together. Bitterness is very low for how hoppy this is. A near masterpiece. 5.0 M: The mouthfeel is damn good as well. Medium to heavier medium body. Good spritzy carbonation from the yeast and awesomely creamy from the hops. Super smooth. 4.5 D: I never had this fresh, but I can't imagine it ever tasted better than it does now. Simply fantastic. This would be a damn tasty IPA by itself, but the Belgian character shines through and complements the hops better than I ever would have imagined. By all means, this is a Belgian IPA and easily the best one I've ever had. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-17-2011 01:18:47
I was surprised at the fruity notes in this beer. Good malt and bitterness balance, very delicious - I will drink more now. And again And later.
very good beer. sneaks up on you. good yeast charcteristic
The Belgian yeast actually makes this better than the original!
This beer is one of my favorites. The belgian yeast is a great mix with the fruit ipa flavors.
To hoppy for my taste
@ meadhall
The yeast does alot for this brew. big aroma, big belgian taste but it's also mellowed after the swallow by a fruity taste. very refreshing.
A little sumpin special really great flavor they make great stuff so easy to drink
scary smooth for over 9%
You're not going to plow through a 6-pack of this one. The ABV is high but you won't notice until you try to do calculus...or stand up. Wonderful wild yeast dominates the nose, but as with any Lagunitas IPA it gives way to a nicely balanced beer, not cloying or overly hopped.
A: It's a tad hazy pale straw color with a quickly dissipating white head, but nice lacing. S: Its hoppy, sweet, and smells like Brett.. 3 of my favorite things! The interesting thing, is that you get all three components together. The sweetness and hops come through as big pineapple, the beer smells quite wonderful. T: Big pineapple on the taste buds too, no sour brett character at all, but it has some barnyardiness to it. Solid bitterness and really tasty! M: Medium body with moderate carbonation. It's rather smooth and a coats the palate nicely. D: For the ABV content, it's quite drinkable. I'm shocked actually at how drinkable it is.
Bubble Gum..... This may be the best beer ive ever had..... And ive had ALOT of beers in my lifetime ; )
Never met a Lagunitas I didn't like! Another amazing beer from this solid brewery. Similar to Sumpin' Sumpin' but with few tweaks. Golden color. Aroma is a nice grapefruit. Complex flavors, exceptionally balanced. Another favorite!
The first thing noticeable about this wonderful ale is the bottle. Lagunitas placed the beer in a stunted bottle with a cute little girl and wonderful beer information upon the label. Once popping the cap, a simple pour into a pint glass provides plenty of information about this ale. Pouring rather light, this golden yellow beer gives the first appearance of a lighter beer. The aroma is sweet and floral with a hint of citrus, betraying its high alcohol content, but denying its IBU rating. The first sip actually reminds you of the alcohol content, but still doesn't tell you of the high percentage. The flavors of grapefruit and other citrus assault the palate, bringing about a well rounded ale. To say there is a such thing as a drinkable high-alcoholic ale is to recommend this beer. A bit expensive for its taste in Charleston, but still a wonderful beer. Very glad to try it.!
This is, as almost everything that comes out of that mad scientist labratory of a brewhouse in Petaluma, a very unique beer. The base beer is Little Sumpin' Sumpin', a highly hopped wheat beer that is totally unique, but the wonderful wingnuts at Lagunitas couldn't leave that alone. They added some funky wild bacteria to this that adds a touch of sour and grassy notes as well. This is not a beer for the faint of heart! It packs a lot of flavor and it's very complex, so if you're looking for an easy drinking beer, move on, son. However, if you're looking for a totally unique (and definately tasty) time, give this one a whirl.
had this on draft at Tipples in Gainesville. Complex flavored medium bodied beer with pleasant aftertaste. When you want a beer that tastes like a beer.....but just a little different.
Ye pretty good I like the sumpin sumpin better
A pilsener mated with an IPA in this interesting brew. The front palate presents a fleeting malt character. Before long, the minimal sweetness is taken over by definite piney hops. The brew is crisp and direct, with a sharp, lingering hop bitterness.
big and flavorful. sipin beer.
