A creamy caramel light tan brown is formed, about two fingers, settles down nicely with a thick cap. Body is opaque, out of the bottle it pours a real gorgeous orange amber, but the body sits to reveal a more brown amber with hints of reddish orange on the sides. Faint lacing while drinking. Nose is a real wondeful creamy milk chocolate. Sense of whipped and velvet coming. Straight forward, even a hint of warmth but not too much. Palate is a little bit of noticeable heat, rolling malts and rich chocolate feel. Afterfinish has a good hop bitter too it, which is really unexpected. A sense of creamy egg yolk somewhere in here. It's got some real in the stomach boozy warming but doesn't taste a lot like alcohol. Overall pretty solid, if a little imperfect, and fun to drink. If I am in the right mood I'd want this beer again. Serving type: bottle
A - Pours a very dark amber color with an off-white head that slowly dissipates and great lacing. S - Rich dark malts, caramels, dark fruits, figs, sugar, faint hops and alcohol. T - Dark fruits, plums, figs, and the rich caramel malts are most apparent. Some spice and sugar as well. Very tasty. M - Medium to full bodied, great carbonation. Very drinkable, but there definitely is some alcohol heat. A great warming feeling comes from the beer. O - Hibernation is a fantastic old ale, it's strong and tastes like it. Delicious and well worth your time and effort. A great beer if its a little chilly outside.
I look forward to this seasonal every year! Delicious strong and warming! Great for some cold weather, or with rich holiday dishes!
nice full bodied winter beer. good bitterness to balance the sweet chocolate flavors. great fireside beer.
This is a great winter ale.
Good beer, not great. Medium roastiness not to full of a flavor or body. Put one back and drink it next year to compare
This is probably my favorite winter seasonal out there. I think big, dark, loads of flavor and high abv warmth when I think of a winter ale- this is it. As the bottle says, very robust, and savory. Dark fruit, vanilla, wood, earthy citrus. Definitely a great 6 pack to buy during the winter
A very good winter seasonal beer
a really well done winter seasonal. not overly spiced great body with it. i saw some earlier this week and may go back for it.
Expensive beer, but well worth the price. I tried about 18 seasonal brews last winter and this was by far superior to all the others. ABV is masked well by the complex flavoring.

Very complex taste. Great color and aroma. Tastes strong yet smooth.
Great ale! On tap, poured with a thick head, aroma of espresso and bitter dark chocolate, deep malt flavor with hints of the same, smooth mouthfeel and finish. Really enjoyed this one! Didn't even realize it was almost 9% ABV until I read these other reviews.
Color is a very nice dark amber / brown with a creamy head that dissipates quickly. Strong hop and malt aroma. Complex taste profile dominated by strong nutty and roasted malt flavors; notable alcohol. Rich and full bodied, very smooth one of my favorite strong winter ales. Another good one from Great Divide!
Full bodied ale with mature malty taste. Excellent beer.
I wasn't expecting this to have the body that it does when I poured it. Another good ale from The Great Divide.
Gorgeous color and nice head that dissipates quickly. Maltier than I expected. Great ale with a lively and rich flavor.
2011 beer list A nice malty winter ale.
