Creamy. Malty. Heavy but yummy.

Dark brown beer with a nice roasted flavor. Slight sweetness from the bourbon barrel aging.
Overall this beer is good. The texture could improve. The carbonation is too much in comparison to the body. It liked the creamy like sensation of beers of this kind. The hops are where they should be. The oats are there but this recipe needs more malt to give it a smoother texture. Yeah, I wouldn't hesitate to drink it again.
Poured into a snifter. 3.0 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head that fizzes away a la Coca-Cola post haste. 3.5 S: Lots of oats and dry, dusty cocoa powder. Good bit of roastiness. Super dry overall. 3.0 T: The taste is really nice, but it has one major flaw. Again this is simple with a moderate roastiness, lots of oats, and cocoa powder. The flaw, which tastes a pretty damn good beer down to an average one is that this is as dry as the nose suggests. It's painfully dry and because of this, it comes off as quite watery. 2.0 M: Light body. Light body indeed. Way too light for the style. Never had one like this. Also, too much carbonation. Not creamy due to the body and not smooth due to the carbonation level. 2.5 D: Not impressed with this one. With some crystal malt, this would be a damn good beer as the flavors present are pleasant. However, what isn't there is more important. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-01-2011 03:28:20
Nice and smooth, a good cold night beer. Creamy head with toasty malt notes and a good balance...pours lighter than a typical oatmeal stout but has a good mouthfeel.
Quality, affordable oatmeal stout. Has roasted notes coupled with a mildly sweet coffee taste. Solid offering.
One of my favorite stouts. Dark, rich, and smooth! Goes down like velvet.
Amazon chocolate and coffee tastes, great aroma! To bad it's only around during the winter.
What a great beer, I live like 2 minutes from one of the Firestone Taprooms and I've never had this beer until my wife brought it home from trader joes, perfect beer for these cold nights!
Hints of coffee on the nose complemented by a nice coffee roastiness and chocolate on the palate. The texture is well, velvety smooth and not at all heavy.
Really smooth. Nice chocolate and coffee notes. Enjoyable brew.
Maybe my new favorite oatmeal stout. Rich, velvety mouthfeel, probably from the huge 15% oats used in the recipe. A lot of 'sweet' character, probably from a greater than average amount of crystal. Good roast character, but not acrid or burnt at all. More like a smooth, coffee flavor, while most other stouts have a bitter baking chocolate or burnt bread/coffee taste. Very smooth and drinkable, sweet but not cloying. My new favorite stout!
Easy beer to drink. Did not think this was going to be the case. Every chance I get to taste this on tap, I like to get this one. A delicious blend.
I generally like something bolder, thicker, and stronger in an oatmeal stout, but Velvet Merlin grew on me. The first sip won't knock your socks off (like the Great Divide Yetis), but it's a flavorful, satisfying stout. Smoky. Hint of carmel.
Not bad, but the texture is a bit thin. Nice flavors but not great. Drinkable.
Strong dark head that dissipates quickly Light body with strong black malt presence that overwhelms chocolate undertones.
Wonderful stout. Deep chocolate and coffee notes. Silky smooth. More, please.
notes test.
This is a very good oatmeal stout. It's initially a little abrasive on the tongue but it has great flavor. Not as smooth as some other oatmeal stouts, but still really enjoyable
