About Don de Dieu

This smooth, exceptionally strong triple wheat ale offers a complex flavor that is slightly fruity, malty, nutty and yeasty, with a hint of unfiltered sake. Don de Dieu (Gift of God) is named after the ship commanded by Samuel de Champlain de Brouage, who was commissioned by France's King Henry IV to explore the vast, unknown territory of Nouvelle-France. In June 1608, Champlain sailed the Don de Dieu up the St. Lawrence River to a point where it narrows between high cliffs, a site that could easily be defended. Champlain landed the ship and founded a new settlement he christened Québec, modifying the Algonquin word "Kebec," which means "where the river narrows." We brew Don de Dieu to honor the founder of Québec and Nouvelle-France, which later became the adopted home for legions of immigrants who today are collectively known as French-Canadian and Québecois.
