A bit thin for a brown ale though still good. Dogfishhead's brown is superior.
A fine example of brown ale - very similar to Meantime's American Nut Brown
Good brown ale... One of my favs from brooklyn brewery
Rich
A- Pours a deep brown. Almost dark enough to make it opaque. Two finger fizzy head that hangs around a decent amount of time. Good lacing. S- Mostly nutty and chocolate scents. Underlying tones of sweetness. T- Just like the smell except for hints of coffee roasts added. Good nutty tones. Sweet chocolate and brown sugar flavors. Also, a hint of spicyness towards the end. Finishes somewhat dry and tart. Little aftertaste. M- Decent weight. A littly silky going down. A fair amount of carbonation. Overall, one of the better brown's I've had.
I've gotten some six packs of this maybe 3 or 4 times over the last couple of years and really liked it, but it didn't always seem fresh. I got to try it for the first time on tap today. Pours a dark, deep brown with a slight tint of red when held up to the light. You can see the clarity of the beer as well, which can obviously be tough with a dark beer like this. It had a decent head of froth with a little bit of lacing. It smelled great, I tend to have a tougher time smelling the hops in brown ales, but no problem with this one, had a nice hoppy smell as well as the caramel malts. It tasted nice as well, starts with the malts and a nice hoppy aftertaste. Full bodied and full of flavor. My only knock on it is that I've never found it very drinkable for an ale, it almost drinks like a porter, but it makes up for it in everything else in my opinion. This brown ale was refreshing and very good. A wonderful backbone of malted barley with a caramel flavor and a hunt of chocolate with enough hops to yield a well balanced brew. Highly sessionable with medium monthfeel, 5.5% ABV, and lightly carbonated. Lots going on with this beer, more tan your average Brown ale.
Really good not a super amount of flavor
10/03/2011 - head-to-head with Sierra Nevada Tumbler. 12oz bottle. Two-finger head with pretty good retention, some spotty lacing. Caramel malt on the nose and not much else. Caramel malt dominates on the palate too, then hops pick up and linger for a bit. Solid brown ale, lacking in character next to Tumbler, but certainly better than say, a Newcastle.
Strong
Lúpulo, malte, leve torrado, leve doce e amarga.
Pours dark brown with a solid white head. Pleasant aroma. A lot of flavor, but a little too acidic for my tastes when it comes to brown ales. Decent drinkability.
On tap at ruby Tuesday's. Minimal head with minimal retention. Aroma hoppy for an American brown - pleasant for the Hophead that I am. Medium body. Balanced roasted bitterness throughout. Finish a bit bitter for style
I wish there was a 4.5 rating. This is great. One of my favorite brown ales. Great hop profile & mouth feel. Very drinkable.
good brown ale
Great aroma, smooth drinking beer. Enjoyed it on tap with a great meal
Not very sweet
So much awesome malty caramelly sweetness in this beer. Almost Scottish in that way. Fantastically well balanced. Hints of chocolate. It's medium bodied when I want it to be full bodied, but it's still fantastic. 4.499 overall!
the hops didn't taste bitter, but green and fresh.
Tasty brown
