Another great stout. Hints of pine made me think it would be a bit strange, but it works. A tad bit expensive, but to be expected.

How anyone can review this without mentioning pine is beyond me. Very, very piny. Like you distilled a Christmas tree in a barrel of good Irish stout. Not as big on the roast and chocolate as a lot of American stouts but a very interesting take on a more traditional style, not subdued by any means. Drank this alongside barrel aged Rasputin and bitches brew. Would happily take this over bitches brew.

A nice stout with the typical dash of hops one would expect from FFF. Not as hop forward as Alpha Klause.

Very rich dark appearance with minimal foam. I like the complex enticing aroma... chocolate and roasted malt and other smells I couldn't quite make out. I should have let it warm up a bit more but it was too tasty to wait! Hops definitely present in both aroma and taste, typical of a 3F beer. This stout gives you a wonderfully fulfilling taste while still only being around 6%. I could be way off on this but it seems to remind me a bit of Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Regardless, enjoy one!

Appearance: The pour is a deep ebony color with a small tan head that fades to a few wispy islands after a minute, leaving no real lace. Smell: Rich dark chocolate and chocolate malt, roast coffee, roasted malt, a bit of vanilla and some soft spicy pine in the background. Taste: The flavor starts with a blast of dark roasted malt, dark burnt chocolate, and roast espresso. The flavor maintains and a creamy milkiness comes in midway, before a now faded level of citrus and pine hops. The finish is somewhat sweet, with chocolate flavors dominating, but with that typical Three Floyd's hop profile. Mouthfeel: It is tough to believe that this is 5.25% ABV, as this drinks much bigger. A rich, smooth, milky, creamy mouthfeel is very impressive. Slightly sticky on the lips. The remaining hops create some salivation and a light spicy prickle on the tongue. Overall, a nice dry finish. Overall: Especially compared to some of the more popular beers in the style (Guinness), this drinks bigger, has a bolder flavor, and is just better overall.

This was a treat the first time I had one. It was slightly hop forward which is nice for a dry stout. Rarely does 3F disappoint.

2008 Black Sun is far away one of my favorite stouts from 3 Floyds. For the last two years the style has been changed to a traditional dry Irish stout, far from 3F's cry of "Not Normal."

This beer is extremely smooth. The aroma is very pleasant. I can see myself drinking this on a hot summer day. There is a slight peachy citrus flavor to this beer.

This beer was very dark; about as dark as it gets. Very smooth tasting. Good balance of the standard tastes: maltiness, coffee, hops. Not extremely hoppy though. The only thing I would do to improve on this is give it a little extra kick with slightly more alcohol. Pretty heavy beer.
