I love this IPA but 3 Floyd's is brewery that continues to satisfy and win my loyalty . Quality flagship from a quality shop
Appearance: Dark amber with an off-white head that provided excellent lacing down to the bottom of the glass. Aroma: A big nose of citrus and florals, the malt fights it way through. Taste: The flavors of grapefruit and juniper are everywhere, nice malt sweetness to balance the hops, with a big hoppy finish. Drinkability: Nice balance of flavors and paired nicely with a traditional Hoosier tenderloin. Notes: Served on tap in a pint glass. Dark atmosphere made it a little difficult to judge appearance.
Wonderfully refreshing pale ale, Three Floyds continues to impress.
Citrus and grapefruit aroma. Mouthfeel crisp and carbonated. Taste of Hops, citrus and grapefruit. Those looking for a pale ale that has a wide separation from an IPA, choose a different Pale ale. This is definitely a modern, craft pale ale.
great taste
Nice hops
Great citrus flavor and hop.
This is an Alpha King ... a great brew
Great hop flavor. First Three Floyd's I tried and was well worth it. Another staple in my fridge.
One of my favorite beers. Disappointing they don't distribute to the east anymore. Beautiful golden color from the bottle with an ample frothy white head. The citrus aroma is quite noticeable. It has such good balance between the carmel flavoring from the malt and the citrus from the hops. There is some hint of pine, but this is mostly grapefruit. I think this borders on an IPA and many looking for a pale ale may find this too hoppy. I typically don't like to drink the same beer twice in a session, but this one is an exception.
I love the balanced hops in this King of IPA's
11/5/2011 Hoppy enough to be interesting but not so hoppy as to be offensive. The citrus profile makes this my favorite Pale Ale. If only I could get in PA... 95
I had this beer on tap in Indianapolis and I liked it so much I've decided to make a stop in Munster, IN to visit Three Floyd's the next time on my way to Chicago. Alpha King has such a complex array pf flavors and contrary to a lot of IPAs it's bite isn't overwhelming. One of my favorites
Pours a beautifully clear caramel color with a 1 inch head. The thickness allows a few drops of beer to float on the head like a hover-craft, and I like that. Huge lacing stays forever. Giant citrus and caramel smells, with some pine and all. Is this an IPA? Smells bitter and earthy from the hops, too.Taste is of excellent hops taste of citrus. There is some pine and earthiness, then bitterness, followed by caramel malts.Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied, then it's carbonated and crisp, and when that dissipates it leaves the malty smoothness on the tongue again. Overall, a fantastic beer, not sure of its category though. It's so well put together, I want a thousand of them.
Surprisingly smooth.
Excellent hops. Best pale ale next to Zombie Dust.
Nice citrus and grapefruit in the nose. Flavor is bittersweet fruits and some malts. Great pale ale.
Amazing
I'm biased because I'm a native Hoosier and this is an Indiana beer, but it might be the best pale ale on the market. Very smooth and refreshing and tasty. Everything a pale ale should be.
